The appointment of the leader of Sumem Lloret as Director General of Good Governance is seen as a political maneuver to keep Mayor Adrià Lamelas in power
Lloret de Mar is embroiled in a new political controversy after Lara Torres, head of the list and spokesperson for Sumem Lloret, accepted a position as Director General of Good Governance, Innovation, and Democratic Quality in the Salvador Illa government. This move has been met with indignation from Junts Lloret, which accuses Torres of prioritizing her personal interests and abandoning the effort to build a solid alternative to the current municipal government.
According to sources from Junts Lloret, Torres' decision not only represents the loss of a political opportunity to form a new future government but also ensures the continuity of Adrià Lamelas as mayor, who governs with a minority. The party, led by Jordi Martínez, claims that the proposal from Illa’s government to Torres was a clear exchange of favors, in which institutional support is guaranteed to keep Lamelas in office in exchange for Torres' appointment to a highly paid position.
“Lara Torres has betrayed the people of Lloret,” declared Martínez. "After having worked on an alternative project to the socialist government, her acceptance of the position shows that she has put her personal interests above those of the citizens." Additionally, Junts Lloret emphasizes that Torres had always defended a municipalist model, an image that is now called into question after this move.
The position Torres will hold in the Generalitat, according to the Transparency Portal, is compensated with €93,160.26 per year, a figure that Junts Lloret has not failed to highlight in its criticisms. "Her priority has been securing a public salary, while Lloret will continue with a minority government and few prospects for change,” lamented Martínez.
Despite this unexpected turn, Junts Lloret assures that it will continue to work with commitment for the citizens, insisting on its municipalist mission, staying away from the political games they believe are behind this appointment. “We will remain by the side of the people of Lloret, as we always have,” the spokesperson concluded.
This episode highlights the internal tensions between the political factions in the municipality and paints an uncertain picture for the coming years, with a municipal government that Junts Lloret accuses of being propped up by decisions from the Catalan government, rather than the support of the people of Lloret.
